TCIL bagged the CII HRD Award
and the IR Award
TCIL has become a major Turn Around story of its
times and today is being quoted for the resilience an organization can display when
surrounded by adversity of a gravest magnitude. What perhaps is not so well known is the
people strength of the company, which all said and done was behind the phenomenal
improvements the company displayed since 1997, when it was in really troubled times. The
company never diluted its efforts on the Human Resource Developmental front even when the
losses were heavy. Developing its people-resources remained a top priority with the
company. In recognition of TCIL's commitment to the Philosophy of HRD thru the years as a
core value of the organization, CII Eastern Region has awarded it the Nicco Rotating
Trophy for 2003-2004.
Besides the HRD AWARD, CII (ER) has also judged
TCIL as maintaining BEST Practices in Industrial Relations. Instituted for the first time,
there was a group of eight teams from eastern India who had presented their cases. Through
the turn-around phase of the company in the recent past, TCIL went through massive
downsizing of its workforce. Even though there were quite a number of problems, which
could have impacted the industrial relations in the organization, TCIL had absolutely
unhindered operations going on with the full understanding and constructive cooperation
from the company's Union. The jury at CII saw the efforts as exemplary and awarded the
company for the best IR practices.
The HRD and IR Awards were presented in a
glittering function on the 16th of April, 2004 by Mr. B. Muthuraman, MD., Tata Steel and
Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Vice President CII.
