Mr. H. Katayama and Mr. M. Sugiura, auditors from JIPM visited TCIL on 4th October, 2005 for the final audit of the TPM Excellence award (first Level).

The morning session started with individual pillar presentations. The extent of work done against each pillar was appreciated by the auditors. They made special mention about JH and PM Pillars where extensive work has been done related to leakages and various other zero based initiatives taken under PM Pillar.

This was followed by the Plant visit where cellar condition of 6 Hi Mill was appreciated by auditors and they remarked that level has gone up by 2 levels. The JH visuals, No leakage zones and Gemba Kaizens were appreciated all over the plant. The overall get up of CRM and ETP units were appreciated for 2’S’ conditions. The auditors recommended that an effort should be made to capture more and more numbers of near miss incidence.

Afternoon session started with Kaizen story presentations. Altogether seven stories were presented related to speed loss, zero failure loss, quality defect loss and reduction in cycle time. The stories were appreciated but the auditors suggested to improve the presentation skills so that more numbers of stories can be presented during the allotted time.

During the feedback session Chief Auditor, Mr. Katayama, announced that TCIL had qualified for the TPM first level award which will be conferred in the month of February 2006 in Japan. He also expressed words of caution that if any major accident occurs in TCIL before the award ceremony, TCIL will be disqualified for the award.

Auditors recommended that this is just a beginning of TPM journey and everybody in the organization should work very hard to further pursue this for higher level of awards.
